  • A car (or automobile) is a wheeled motor vehicle used for transportation. Most definitions of car say they run primarily on roads, seat one to eight people, have four tires, and mainly transport people rather than goods.
  • At present time, everyone uses car for transportation in daily life. But no one tries to understand the basics of cars. It is made of several components.

Gear lever
Used to change gears in a car.
Seat belt
1. A car has seat belts in the front and back.
2. You use the verb fasten, when you put your seat belt.
3. John fastened his seat belt before driving off.
4. It is used for safety purpose.
Steering wheel
You use the steering wheel to control the direction of the car (steer the car).
Windscreen
The windscreen is the big window at the front of the car.
Windscreen wipers
They are used when driving at night and when it is raining, snow or fog.
Speedometer
The speedometer shows how fast the person driving the car is driving.
Fuel gauge
Used to show how much petrol or diesel the car has left.
Temperature gauge
Shows how hot the car’s engine is.
Car trip meter
This shows the driver how many miles the journey has taken.
Rev counter
1. The rev counter is used to help you change gear.
2. It can be used for better fuel economy.

Battery
1. The battery allows your vehicle to turn on in the first place.
2. In a majority of cars, it will be located under the hood, and you can identify it with the (-) and (+) symbols.
Axle
1. The axle is responsible for transferring power from the engine to the wheels.
2. It is an important part when you want to move, brake and turn.
Brakes
1. Brakes are most important Safety System of your vehicle.
2. They are used to slow down or stop the car to avoid an incident or accident.
Radiator
1. You will find the radiator underneath the hood.
2. It will be located near the engine because its responsibility is to cool the engine down and prevent it from overheating.
Shock Absorbers
Shock absorbers help keep your vehicle stable when you drive over uneven roadways.
Tail lights
1. The lights that are at the back of the car are call lights.

2. The orange light is called indicators and are used when the car is turning left or right.

3. The white part is called the reverse light and lights up when the car is reversing backwards.

4. The red part is used when the head lights are being used so other drivers can see the car in front of them at night time or poor driving conditions.
