  • An endangered species is a species which has been categorized as very likely to become extinct in the near future.
  • Endangered (EN), as categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, In 2012, the IUCN Red List featured 3,079 animal and 2,655 plant species as endangered (EN) worldwide.
  • Many nations have laws that protect conservation-reliant species: for example, forbidding hunting, restricting land development or creating protected areas.

Endangered SpeciesAfrican Wild Dog
1. The African wild dog is a canid native to sub-Saharan Africa.
2. It is the largest of its family in Africa highly specialized for a hypercarnivorous diet, and a lack of dewclaws.
3. It was classified as endangered by the IUCN in 2016, as it had disappeared from much of its original range.
4. The 2016 population was estimated at roughly 39 subpopulations containing 6,600 adults, only 1,400 of which were reproductive.
5. The decline of these populations is ongoing, due to habitat fragmentation, human persecution and disease outbreaks.
6. The African wild dog is a highly social animal, living in packs with separate dominance hierarchies for males and females.
Endangered SpeciesAmur Leopard
1. The Amur leopard is a leopard subspecies native to the Primorye region of southeastern Russia and northern China.
2. It is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
3. In 2007, only 19–26 wild leopards were estimated to survive in southeastern Russia and northeastern China.
4. It was considered as one of the rarest cats on Earth.
Endangered SpeciesAsian Elephant
1. The Asian elephant also called Asiatic elephant is distributed throughout the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, from India in the west, Nepal in the north, Sumatra in the south, and to Borneo in the east.
2. The Asian elephant is the largest living land animal in Asia.
3. In zoos, Asian elephants die at a much younger age; captive populations are declining due to a low birth and high death rate.
4. In 2003, the wild population was estimated at between 41,410 and 52,345 individuals.
Endangered SpeciesBengal Tiger
1. The Bengal tiger is a population found in the Indian subcontinent.
2. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List since 2008, and was estimated at comprising fewer than 2,500 individuals by 2011.
3. It is threatened by poaching, loss, and fragmentation of habitat.
4. The Bengal tiger ranks among the biggest wild cats alive today.
5. It is the national animal of both India and Bangladesh. It is also known as the Royal Bengal tiger.
Endangered SpeciesBlack – Footed Ferret
1. The black-footed ferret also known as the American polecat or prairie dog hunter, is a species of mustelid native to central North America.
2. It is listed as endangered by the IUCN, because of its very small and restricted populations.

3. The black-footed ferret is roughly the size of a mink, much shorter and coarser fur, larger ears, and longer postmolar extension of the palate.
4. It is largely nocturnal and solitary, except when breeding or raising litters.
5. Up to 91% of its diet is composed of prairie dogs.
