  • The bedroom is a room in a home where people sleep. A bedroom mainly has a bed and drawers to hold clothes in. Many bedrooms also have closets.
  • Some houses have more than one bedroom, and the biggest one is called a master bedroom. Master bedrooms also have bathrooms attached to them called an en-suite.


Bedroom furnishings:

An individual’s bedroom is a reflection of their personality, as well as social class and socioeconomic status, and is unique to each person. However, there are certain items that are common in most bedrooms.

1. The headboard is a piece of furniture that attaches to the head of a bed.

Bedroom location:

  • The bedroom being a space used for rest, relaxation, reading, writing, working, listening to music, sleeping, etc., it needs to have privacy, quiet and peace.
  • It should be well lit and airy and preferably near some green garden etc. as the oxygen released by plants is rejuvenating for the occupants.
  • Keeping all this in mind, the location of the Bedroom depends on the Cardinal directions, and the layout of the rest of the house.


Types of bedrooms:

Bedrooms can be categorized into different types depending on their size and function.

Inside a BedroomMaster Bedroom
1. With furniture consisting of a Queen size Bed, 2 bedside tables on either side, 4 shutters Closet, a Dressing table, a Dresser or 2 boudoir chairs with coffee table, the Master bedroom will be of a minimum size of 12’0″ x 12’6″
2. With furniture consisting of a King size bed, 2 bedside tables on either side, 6 shutters Closet, a dressing table, dresser, 2 chairs with coffee table in between and a desk with chair, the Master Bedroom will be a minimum of 14’0″ x 12’6″.
Inside a BedroomChildren’s Bedroom
1. Single Occupancy Bedroom, with furniture consisting of a single bed and bedside table, study table with chair, 4 shutter closet and dresser, will be of a minimum size of 9’0″ x 12’0″.
2. Double Occupancy Bedroom, having 2 single beds against 2 walls, 2 bedside tables, a 4-shutter closet, 2 study tables and a boudoir chair, will be of a minimum size of 13’0″ x 13’0″.

1. Guest bedrooms should have an empty closet with hangers and dressers where the guests can unpack and keep their personal items.
2. These bedrooms often have an adjacent bathroom to provide guests with more privacy.
3. It should also have adequate lighting, a comfortable chair and a reading lamp.

  • About 43% of children from ages 3 – 4 have a television in their bedrooms.
  • Many houses in America have at least two bedrooms – one for master bedroom and the other bedroom/s for either the children or guests.
  • A bunk bed is a bed which its bed frame is stacked on top of another.
  • A loft bed is a bed similar to a bunk bed but it has no lower bed, freeing floor space for other furniture.
  • The world’s most expensive bed is called Baldacchino Supreme, created by Stuart Hughes. It costs more than $ 6.4 million.
  • According to the principle of Feng Shui bedroom, our bed should not face directly in front of our door and having the foot of our bed in direct line with the door is called the “mortuary position”.
